Abstract
Objective To investigate the effect of electroacupuncture at temporal three needle acupoints as main treatment on activities of daily living and quality of life in patients with post-stroke depression. Methods Sixty patients diagnosed accurately with mild or moderate post-stroke depression were randomly allocated to treatment and control groups,30 cases each. The treatment group received electroacupuncture at temporal three needle acupoints with the cooperation of medication and the control group, medication alone. An evaluation was made using FIM and WHOQOL-BREF in both groups before and after treatment. Results There was a statistically significant pre-/post-treatment difference in the FIM score in both groups(P0.01),but the score increased more obviously in the treatment group than in the control group, and there was a statistically significant difference(P0.01).There were statistically significant pre-/post-treatment differences in the scores of indices on WHOQOL-BREF in both groups(P0.01,P 0.05),but the scores increased more obviously in the treatment group than in the control group, and there were statistically significant differences(P0.01,P0.05).Conclusion Electroacupuncture at temporal three needle acupoints as main treatment can improve activities of daily living and quality of life in patients with post-stroke depression.
