On the Military Governor System in the Tibetan Region in the Tang Dynasty

In order to fight the Tang army and other tribes, the Tibetan rulers reformed the local military tribal allies in accordance with the military governor system of the Tang Dynasty. In border areas five “Dao military governors were appointed so as to administer the military and civil affairs and contact the Tang government. Though the title and organizational system had gone through various changes, the five “Dao military governor system helped the Tibetans gain superiority in the fight with the Tang army.
