Abstract

Objective:To elucidate the relationship between serum levels of soluble intercellular adhesion molecule 1(sICAM 1) in the patients with laryngeal carcinoma and tumor progression as well as metastasis. Methods:Serum samples from 42 patients with laryngeal carcinoma (stage Ⅰ to Ⅳ) and 40 healthy individuals were tested for sICAM 1 using a sandwich enzyme linked immunosorbent assay technique. Results:Patients with laryngeal carcinoma had significant higher serum levels of sICAM 1 than healthy individuals ( P 0.001).Stage Ⅲ Ⅳ patients demonstrated significantly higher serum levels of sICAM 1 than stage Ⅰ Ⅱ patients ( P 0.05).No difference in serum sICAM 1 levels was observed between patients with localized tumor and those with metastasis. Conclusion:Serum levels of sICAM 1 in the patients with laryngeal carcinoma increase with the tumor progression.
