On the Embodied-Cognitive and Dialectic Language View of Xun Zi

Xunzi,great thinker during the period warring states,had a systematic exposition about the relationship between name and existence in his work Zhengming(Name Ratification).Professor Wang Yin once pointed out in his paper that there are prejudices among scholars against Xunzi’s linguistic theory,and he proposed the cognitive view of Xunzi’ linguistic theory.We hold that Xunzi’s exposition about the origin of name and the relationship between name and existence conforms to modern cognitive linguistic theory.It can be said that Xunzi touched the embodied-cognitive theory thousands of years ago.The writer of this article discusses Xunzi’s embodied-cognitive and dialectic view from the origin,establishment and development of name,as well as from the relationship between name and logic thinking.
