A Further Analysis on the Demise of Imperial Examination

In Chinese feudal society imperial examination was an important multifunctional system,which selected officials and maintained the development of traditional society.The imperial examination always stressed literal arts rather than military caliber,routines rather than technology,so it began to show its obsoleteness and deficiency in intellectual selection and nurturing in late 19th century,unable to meet the need of intellectual diversity,and was thus abolished for retarding the development of education and society.China's modern exams partly inherit the traditional forms of imperial examination.The current educational system should take a lesson from ancient Chinese imperial examination,bringing into full play its positive function while discarding the negative parts.
