Abstract

There are close connections between prosperity of Academies in southern Song dynasty and Southern Confucianism.Southern Confucianism had internal and external impacts upon Academies in southern Song dynast.Externally,clansmen of Southern Confucian descendants made great achievements in education.Internally,cultural connotation of Confucian Ancestral Shrine in Quzhou influenced psychological preferences and thinking manners of Southern song Dynasty civilians,who eventually accepted Confucius inwardly.Southern Confucianism influenced the spatio-temporal distribution of Academies in Southern Song Dynasty.Southern Confucianism cultivated many Neo-Confucians,who instructed Academy Movement,which advanced the development of academies in Xiaozong Period of Southern Song Dynasty.Construction of Confucian Ancestral Shrine in Quzhou and supports clansmen of Southern Confucian descendants obtained from the government enhanced the prosperity of academies in Lizong and Duzong Periods of Southern song Dynasty.Academies in Southern Song Dynasty located a large range of areas South of the Yangtze River with Quzhou at the center.
