Abstract

Objective To evaluate diagnostic value of brainstem 3D-TOF thin scan of magnetic resonance in primary trigeminal neuralgia. Methods Observe 3D-TOF thin scan of magnetic resonance in 150 cases. All studies were performed on SIMENS3.0 T MR imaging system.3D-TOF brainstem thin scan was performed by 8 channel head coils with the following parameters: 23/3.6(repetition time msec/echo time msec),15° flip angle, field of view of 165×220 mm.section thickness of 1mm.The relationship between trigeminal nerve and surroundings blood vessels were analyzed in 69 cases with trigeminal neuralgia and in 81 cases with non trigeminal neuralgia. Results The blood vessels that have compression or contact relationship with trigeminal nerve were inferior cerebellar artery, anterior inferior cerebellar artery and basilar artery. In trigeminal neuralgia group, compression relation was showed in15 cases(15/69,21.7%),contact relation was showed in 47cases(47/69,68.1%),non-contact was showed in 7 cases(7/69,10.1%).In non-trigeminal neuralgia group, contact relation was showed in 24cases(24/81,29.6%),non-contact relation was showed in 57 cases(57/81,70.4%).Compression relation, contact relation and no contact relation of blood vessels and trigeminal nerve have statistics difference(P0.05) with the χ2 test. Conclusion 3D-TOF brainstem thin scanning showed the clear relationship between trigeminal nerve and blood vessels. It is useful non invasive examination in the detection of relationship between trigeminal nerve and blood vessels for guiding clinical treatment, providing certain imaging of trigeminal neuralgia to clinical treatment and the cause diagnosis.
