Abstract
A single-molecular intumescent flame retardant, pentaerythritol melamine phosphate(b-MAP) was synthesized by the reaction of melamine phosphate(MP) and pentaerythritol(PER) using a phosphorus-containing plasticizer as reaction medium. The synthesized b-MAP was used to prepare the flame retarded PP.Thermal stability, morphology as well as the dispersion of the flame retardant in matrix were investigated by thermogravimetry(TG) and scanning electronic microscopy (SEM).The experimental results showed that b-MAP was well dispersed and flame retarded PP formed a continuous, compact and intumescent char layer resulting in good flame retardancy and mechanical properties.
