Survey on the psychological health status of AIDS inpatients and their demands for health education

Objective To understand psychological health status of AIDS inpatients and their demands for AIDS health education,and to investigate the strategy of health education and psychological intervention.Methods The AIDS inpatients in No.8 People Hospital of Guangzhou between February and March 2009 was conducted a survey with SCL-90 and a self-designed questionnaire to collect their psychological status and demands for AIDS health education.Results The total SCL-90 score of the participants was 164.93±56.48,significantly higher than the norms.90% of the AIDS inpatients had health education demands for AIDS prevention and control,and 53.57% of them wanted to know the knowledge about AIDS therapy.The communication channel that the paticipants gained AIDS knowledge mostly was mass communication.Conclusion The psychological health status of AIDS inpatients was poor,and their need for health education was strong.Positive action should be taken to provide AIDS inpatients with health education and psychological assistance.
