The Effects of Irbesartan on Left Ventricular Hypertrophy and Myocardial Fibrosis in SHR

Objictive To explore the effects of Irbesartan on left ventricular hypertrophy and myocardial fibrosis in spontaneously hypertensive rats.Methods 18 SHR at 16 weeks of age were randomly divded into active group and control group,The rats in active group were treated with 50mg·kg~(-1)·d~(-1)Irbesartan.Anther 8 rats were recruited as healthy control.After 8 weeks,all the rats were killde,and all the left ventricle muscle weight(LVW)were measured to calculate the LVW/BW;the interstitial collagen volume fraction(CVF)and content of collagen on pathological tissue slices were assessed with computerized video processing.Results compared with WKY rats,the SBP,LVMI,collagen volume fraction(CVF) and perivascular circumferential collagen area(PVCA)were significantly reduced in treated SHRs(P0.01),and substantially reduced in treated SHRs than that in untreated SHRs(P0.01).Conclusion Irbesartan can effectively decrease blood pressure,at same time their myocardial fibrosis and left vertricle hypertrophy can also be reversed partially.
