The influence of semen white blood cells on semen major parameters and sperm function

Abstract

Objective: To study the relationship between semen white blood cells(WBC) and semen major parameters.Methods: Semen WBC,major parameters,abnormal morphological sperm rate,sperm acrosin reaction,AsAb and UU infection were measured and analyzed in 238 infertile men according to WHO laboratory handbook about human semen.Results: Semen WBC 1×106 /ml were 75 cases in 238 male infertility,set up into WBC positive group;Semen WBC≤1×106 /ml were 163 cases,set up into WBC negative group.Semen concentration,motility,a+b grade motility,and sperm acrosin reaction rate in WBC positive group were lower than in WBC negative group(P0.05);Higher abnormal morphological sperm,UU infection rate and AsAb positive rate were observed in WBC positive group(P0.05);Sperm volume,pH value and liquefying time were not significantly different between WBC positive and negative group(P0.05).Conclusion: Sperm WBC have effect on sperm quality,which can be considered as one of the important reasons resulting in male infertility.
