Abstract
The pathogenesis of slow transit constipation(STC) is mainly correlated with enteric nervous system(ENS),interstitial cells of Cajal(ICC),smooth muscle and neurotransmitters.Studies have shown that degenerative changes of ENS,vacuolar degeneration of myenteric nerve plexus, decreased number of ICC,morphological changes, degenerative changes of smooth muscle and changes of neurotransmitters are seen in STC colonic tissue. This article reviewed the study on pathogenesis of STC.
