The effect of amlodipine combined with rosuvastatin on carotid intima-media thickness in patients with hypertension

Objective To investigate the effect of amlodipine combined with rosuvastatin on carotid intima-media thickness in patients with hypertension.Methods During period of January 2009 to May 2011,100 patients with essential hypertension were randomly divided into experimental group (n=50) and control group (n=50).The control group were given amlodipine 5 mg per day,the experimental group were given amlodipine 5 mg per day and rosuvastatin 10 mg per night.Carotid intima-media thickness,blood pressure and lipid levels were compared in two groups after 12 months.Results Carotid intima-media thickness,systolic blood pressure and lipid levels were decreased in experimental group after 12 months' treatment.It was statistically significant compared with the control group (P 0.05).Conclusion Amlodipine combined with rosuvastatin may delay the process of carotid atherosclerosis in hypertensive patients.
