Abstract
Objective To understand epidemic characteristics of measles and rubella in Longnan City by analyzing test results of serum of measles and rubella in 2013, and provide scientific evidence for promoting the immunization programs. Methods IgM antibodies in serum samples of suspected cases with measles and rubella in 2013 were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA). Results Totally 266 samples of measles and rubella with IgM antibody were detected in the whole year, and there were 141 samples with positive IgM antibody to measles, with positive rate of 53.00%,and 57 samples with positive IgM antibody to rubella, with the positive rate of 21.43%. Measles mainly occurred in children under the age of 4-year-old and adults over 20-year-old, while rubella was mostly in adolescence. Epidemic season was mainly from March to June. Conclusions Immunization programs should be focused on improving immunity of the people. Increase of floating population in cities and towns is the important reason for the measles epidemic. Management of migrant population must be strengthened and vaccine immunization of vulnerable groups must be carried out to establish and maintain a high level of immune barrier. Meanwhile, epidemic surveillance should be conducted to prevent disease from outbreak.
