Abstract

Wang Guowei's thoughts on poetics are chiefly reflected in the `theory of idea state',which is the highese achievement in his thoughts on aesthetics. Its characteristic has a tendency towards dualism. As a result of the two streams of Chinese and Western aesthetics, this theory is based on the Western modern transcendental aesthetics in combination with the tradition of the ancient Chinese poetics. Meanwhile, in this combinationexists deep difference between the two kinds of aesthetics. Wang's success lies in his ability to find out the joint of the two trends of thought, and thus introducing the Western aesthetics to ancient Chinese poetics has brought in great innovations on the thought of classica Chinese poetics.
