Abstract
Objective To explore the clinical characteristics of elderly patients with obstructive sleep apnea-hypopnea syndrome(OSAHS)and improve the cognition degree of it.Methods Polysomnography(PSG)was used to confirm OSAHS.The principal symptoms, complications and PSG results between 49 elderly patients with OSAHS and 60 non-elderly OSAHS patients(control group)were analyzed.40 elderly patients with OSAHS accepted Auto-continuous positive airway pressure(Auto-CPAP)therapy,and were abservated the principal symptoms and the change of the parameter of the PSG both before and after Auto-CPAP treatment. Results Compared with the control, elderly patients with OSAHS group had a significant difference in sex difference, body mass index(BMI),neck circumference, snoring, daytime sleepiness, morning mouth dryness, oppressive wake, noctumal frequency of micturition, systolic blood pressure and complications of hypertension, cardiovascular and respiratory(P0.05).However there were no significant differences in abdominal circumference, diabetes and cerebrovascular disease complication(P0.05).PSG monitor showed that sleep structure, respiratory events and the other parameters in elderly patients were significant differences from in non-elderly patients(P0.05).After Auto-CPAP therapy in elderly patients with OSAHS,the principal symptoms was obviously improved, there was a significant decrease in AHI and domote in the lowest SaO2(LSaO2)(P0.01).Conclusions The elderly OSAHS patients have a high incidence, more complications and some clinical characteristics which are different from those of the non-elderly OSAHS patients in the principal symptoms and PSG monitor, which can be useful for early diagnosis and treatment.Auto-CPAP therapy is a safe,non-invasive,brief and effective method to treat the elderly OSAHS patients.
