Abstract

Objective To explore the short-term effect and safety of stenting in treating middle or severe vertebral-basilar artery stenosis with episodic vertigo. Methods 33 patients who suffered from middle or severe vertebral-basilar artery stenosis with episodic vertigo, accepted stenting treatment Their clinical manifestation, intraoperative conditions, postoperative complications and postoperative follow-up one year later were analyzed. Results In terms of the sites appearing vascular stenosis,24 cases were in vertebral artery initial segment,4 cases in intracranial segment and 5 cases in basilar artery.Among the 33 cases, there were 25 with Mori A-type stenosis and 8 withMori B-type stenosis.Operation achievement ratio was 100 percent.Average stenosis ratio descended from 85 percent(70~95 percent) to 15 percent(0~20 percent).During one year of postoperative follow-up,all of 33 patients did not suffer from ischemic events. The sympotoms of Episodic vertigo subsided in 29 cases, lessened in 3 cases, and did not improve in 1 case. Conclusion Stent Angioplasty was safe and effective in treating middle or severe vertebral-basilar artery stenosis, and especially significant in improving the short-term symptoms of episodic vertigo.
