Abstract

Objective To investigate insulin-like growth factor-1(IGF-1) andβ-endorphin(β-EP) levels and their relations to brain damage in neonatal asphyxia. Methods Serum contrations of IGF-1 andβ-EP were detected by radioimmunoassay on day 1,7 after the birth in 60 cases with neonatal asphyxia and on day 1 after the birth in 30 cases normal neonates. The relationship of brain damage with them was analyzed. Results Compared with the control group,IGF-1 of asphyxiated newborns in 1 day was significantly reduced(P0.001). Compared with the control group,β-EP was significantly higher(P0.001).IGF-1 in HIE group was lower than that in a simple group of asphyxia(P0.001);β-EP in HIE group was higher than that in a simple group of asphyxia(P0.001).Conclusion Neonatal asphyxia can lead to the increase of IGF-1 and the increase ofβ-EP. IGF-1 andβ-EP were associted with the brain damage, and there is a negative correlation between IGF-1 andβ-EP.
