Abstract
Since the revival of grammaticalization study in 1980s,great progress has been made in this linguistic field both home and abroad.However,there are also controversial issues under hot debates.What is grammaticalization? This is the primary and most fundamental question in the field.Tracing back the history of grammaticalization,different definitions have been proposed from various perspectives and approaches,but the panorama remains unclear to some extent.With the development of grammaticalization theory and the new interdisciplinary branches of typological grammaticalization and construction grammaticalization,it is necessary to review the ontological and fundamental questions concerning grammaticalization study.
