Abstract
One hundred and fourteen bacterium strains were isolated from twenty-three soil samples,of which eight strains showed high antagonistic effect against Fusarium oxysporum f.sp.niveum.The physiological and biochemical characteristics of the eight strains were tested.The results showed that seven strains were gram positive bacteria and six strains were spore-forming bacteria.All screened bacteria produced antagonistic substances inhibiting the pathogen growth of watermelon wilt and there was no direct relationship between spore-forming and antagonism.
