Abstract
By analyzing some dialogues in the famous novel Fortress besieged and TV talk show Tell it like it is,there appear four kinds of self-politeness strategies. Therefore,a proposal of self-politeness and other-politeness as a third dimension into the politeness principle might make it more comprehensive.
