Effects of Ginsenoside Rb_1 on Left Ventricular Remodeling After Myocardial Infarction in Rats

Abstract

Objective To observe the effects of Ginsenoside Rb_ 1 on left ventricular remodeling after myocardial infarction in rats. Methods After ligation of the left anterior descending coronary artery, 27 surviving male Wistar rats were randomly assigned to two groups: AMI control(n=9) and Ginsenoside Rb_ 1 ( 2mg·kg~ -1 ·d~ -1 , n=9); sham-operated rats(n=9) were selected randomly as non-infarction control. Four weeks later after the operation, the LVDD, LEDV, LVMI, EF and FS of each rat were detected by echocardiogram. Myocardial cell and interstitial tissue were observed by HE stain. RA and the level of Ang Ⅱ were detected by radioimmunoassay(RIA). Results Compared with those of sham-operated group, the LVDD, LEDV and LVMI in AMI group were all significantly increased(P0.05). The parameters in AMI including EF and FS were all significantly decreased (P0.05). Meanwhile,cardiac myocyte hypertrophy was found by HE stain. Furthermore, the ventricular RA and Ang Ⅱin AIM increased(P0.05). However, in Ginsenoside Rb_ 1 group, the EF and FS of the rats were improved, and the local Ang Ⅱwas lower than in AMI group. Conclusion Ginsenoside Rb_ 1 had the effect of preventing VR after AMI,possibly by way of reducing the level of RA and Ang Ⅱ.
