Four New Species of Carinata (Homoptera: Cicadellidae: Evacanthinae) from China

In this paper four new species of the genus Carinata are described. The type speiemens are deposited in the Northwestern Agricultural University (NWAU), Zhongshan University (ZSU) and the Institute of Zoology, Academia Sinica (IZAS) in Beijing separately. 1. Carinata choui Yang et Zhang, sp. nov. (Fig. 1) Length (incl. teg.) : ♂4.9mm～5.8 mm, ♀5.9mm～6.1 mm. The species is similar to Carinata bifurcata Li et Novotny, but can be distinguished from the latter by: 1) posterial margin of pronotum is not black; 2) the areas around oceli are prune rather than black; 3) each side of frontoclypeus, near frontogenal suture, with a big black spot in both male and female; 4) the tubular shaft of aedeagus is not tapering but with two very long processes at apex, and the base of aedeagus is wider and shorter. Carinata brachyfurcata Yang et Zhang, sp. nov. (Fig. 2) Length(incl. teg.) : ♂5.0mm, ♀ 5.1mm. The species is similar to the new species C. choui, but can be distinguished from the latter by: 1) costal margin of tegumen yellowish white, areas around oceli black; 2) pygofer with two long processes; 3) fewer setae along the middle of subgenital plate, five slender and six stout short setae at apex; 4) aedeagus with two short processes at apex, as half length as that of C. choui ; 5) paramere short and wide. Holotype♂(ZSU), paratype 1♂,1♀(ZSU), Xinyi Dawulin, Guangdong, 3-VII-1988, Wu Lianying. 3. Carinata barbulata Yang et Zhang, sp. nov. (Fig. 3) Length (incl. teg.): ♂ 6.0 mm. This species is similar to C. bifurcata Li et Novotny in body appearance, but can be distinguished from the latter by: 1) no black spots in subapical part of frontoclypeus; oceli are yellowish white; 2) proceses a little longer than that of C. bifurcata; 3) the shaft of aedeagus long and tube like, with six small dorsal barbs in subapical part. Holotype♂(IZAS), Shuiman, Hainan. 26-V-1960, Zhang Xuezhong. 4. Carinata bifurca , sp. nov. (Fig. 4) Length(incl. teg.): ♂7.0mm. This species is similar to C. albusa Li et Wang, but can be distinguished from the latter by: 1) Body longer, and no brown spot in apical cells of tegumen; 2) pygofer longer, apex of processes swell and bifurcate; 3) the shaft of connective is nearly as long as its arms; 4) both ends of paramere blunt; 5) aedeagus is no tapering at apex.
