Abstract

Public ownership is absent from DENG Xiao-ping's statement about the essence of socialism, which is neither a negligence nor a contradiction. Productivity emphasized by DENG is more basic and more decisive; public ownership, as a characteristic of socialism, is subordinate to the essential requirement of socialism; public ownership and its realization form, as prerequisites, have been included in the aim to eliminate exploitation and fulfill universal abundance.
