Abstract

The word “ZHI(之)” has many uses, but the use in the sentense of “A WEI ZHI (谓之)B” has ever been disputed. The writer thinks that when A is an initiative suject, the word “ZHI(之)” is an demonstrative pron, being as an indirect object; when A is a passive subject, the “ZHI(之)” is an auxiliary verb without meaning and its function is only adapting to the syllable behind the word “WEI(谓)”.
