Abstract
Objective:To review the clinical experience of diagnosis and treatment of severe pulmonary contusion. Methods: A retrospective study was carried out in 198 cases of severe pulmonary contusion(injury severity score ≥20) from January 2003 to December 2010.Results: Among 198 cases,165(83.3%)cases were cured and 33(16.7%) died. Conclusions: The chest image information are reliable for the diagnosis of severe pulmonary contusion. The important methods include keeping airway clear, progressively treating shock and reasonably applying ventilation, steroids as well as antibiotics. The early diagnosis and the prompt treatment of the associated injuries are key to higher cure rate.
