Abstract
Objective To understand the epidemiological characteristics of rotavirus infection and genotype characteristics of the virus in children aged less than 5 years in Hohhot. Methods Totally 789 stool specimens were collected from ≤59 months old children with diarrhea from July 2010 to June 2012.Rotavirus was detected by using ELISA,strain characterization was carried out with nested PCR.SPSS 13.0 was used to analyze the results.ResultsAmong the samples,288 were rotavirus antigen positive(36.50%).The incidence of rotavirus infection peaked during October-February.Rotavirus was mostly detected in children aged from 12 to 23 months. The cases in children aged 2 years accounted for 95.83% of the total.Rotavirus G3(38%) was predominant from 2010 to 2011.Rotavirus G9(67%) was predominant from 2011 to 2012.Rotavirus genotype P [8] was predominant during 2011 to 2012.ConclusionRotavirus were one of the most common pathogen of acute gastroenteritis among infants in Hohhot..There was a drift of predominant serotype from G3 to G9 during 2010 to 2012.
