Abstract

OBJECTIVE To discuss molecular epidemiology and clinic characteristics of rotavirus diarrhea among infants and young children in Panzhihua from October to December in 2009.METHODS Rotavirus antigen of 270 stool specimens collected from infants and young children with diarrhea was detected by using immune colloidal gold method.RT-PCR was used to indentify G and P genotypes of group A rotavirus.RESULTS Rotavirus was detected in 104 of 270 specimens and the rotavirus positive rate was 38.6%.The rotavirus positive rate was 45.4%(89/196)in the group at the age of 6 months to 2 years.The rotavirus positive rate was 20.3%(15/74)in the group at the age of 2 years to 5 years.The difference between them was statistical significant(P﹤0.05).G2 and P4 were the predominant genotypes of rotavirus diarrhea in 104 stool specimens from group A.CONCLUSION Rotavirus was the main pathogen of infants with diarrhea in Panzhihua.G2 and P4 were the prevalent types in 2009.Infants with diarrhea caused by rotavirus mainly occurred in autumn and winter.The children at the age of 6 months to 2 years were the infected group by rotavirus.
