Abstract
Objective To describe the distribution of the causes,location and severity of childhood injury in Mei County in Shaanxi Province,and to provide evidence for childhood injury prevention and control. Methods Data of childhood injury was collected during 2006- 2012 by hospitals injury surveillance in Shaanxi Province. Results There were 3 561 injuries of children aged 0- 17 years during 2006- 2012 in general,and the sex ratio was 2. 61∶ 1( male∶ female). The three leading causes of injuries were fall( 31. 56%),traffic accident( 28. 84%) and blunt injury( 13. 82%). The cause of injury was different among gender and age groups. Most injuries were occurred during April to October,and at 8: 00 am to 10: 00 pm. The main places where injury occurred were road / streets( 32. 91%),home( 31. 93%),school and public places( 22. 69%). About 51. 36% of injuries happened in leisure activities. More than 86% of child injuries were unintentional injuries. Injury often occurred in head( 32. 18%).About 43. 39% of the children went back home after clinical treatments,meanwhile 65. 80% of the child injuries were mild. Conclusion There is a link between injury cause with age and gender. Childhood injury prevention should be carried out through multi-section cooperation.
