Abstract

Objective To identify the suspected Streptococcus suis(S.suis) strains using PCR assay, and to evaluate its application value. Methods Three suspected S.suis strains were amplified by PCR with specific genes(16s rRNA) and the capsular polysaccharide of S.suis serotype 2 specific gene(cps 2J) primers, and the detection results were compared with those of conventional culture methods. Results 16s rRNA and cps 2J genes of 3 suspected strains were all positive by PCR amplification, and the detection results were S.suis serotype 2 and consistent with those of conventional culture methods. Conclusions As compared with conventional culture methods, the PCR assay is a rapid and specific detection method for S.suis serotype 2.It is suitable for rapid detection of S.suis serotype 2 in the outbreak of S.suis.
