Abstract
While Ding Ling tries hard to improve herself and correct her individualities in the north of Shaanxi, she cannot defend against the real appealing for the freedom of the May 4 Movement, which she expresses in both rationality and practice. Therefore, in her literary criticism and creation, she inherits the individualism, shows her passion for, and pinpoints the significance of independence and enlightenment of the intellectuals in the new historical contexts.
