Status of doctors' smoking behavior and knowledge of tobacco control in Zhejiang Province

Objective To understand the status of smoking behavior and knowledge of tobacco control among doctors,and to provide evidence for intervening among doctors in future.Methods 1272 doctors form 165 hospitals in Hangzhou City,Taizhou City and Yunhe County were selected with stratified sampling to undergo a survey.Results 52.25% of the hospitals had the ban on smoking.The general smoking rate and the current smoking rate of doctors were 23.05% and 19.27%,respectively,in both of which the proportion of male was higher compared with female.The awareness rate of the participants about 8 kinds of smoking related diseases and 6 kinds of passive smoking related diseases were 63.88% and 75.04%,respectively.82.55% of the doctors asked their patients about their smoking initiatively,and 2.25% had helped patients to give up tobacco with drugs.22.56% of the participants had obtained training on smoking prevention.The influncing factors of doctors' smoking behavior were gender(OR=26.98),surgeon(OR=1.58),doctors with over 10 years of work experience(OR=1.99),a correct understanding of addictive smoking(OR=0.62).Conclusion Doctors are lack of smoking control related knowledge.Health education and training on smoking control for doctors should be strengthened in the future.
