Syphilis and HIV infection status among 3 348 men who have sex with men in Jiangsu province

OBJECTIVE To study the characteristics of men who have sex with men and their HIV/AIDS knowledge,behavior,and the status of HIV/syphilis infection in Jiangsu province.METHODS Questionnaire,HIV and syphilis tests were conducted;Excel database was established and statistical analysis of data was performed with SPSS 15.0 software.RESULTS The last 6 months of consistent condom use for anal sex was 44.66%,262 cases were confirmed HIV positive among 3 338 MSM,the positive rate was 7.85%,757 cases(22.68%)were positive for syphilis ELISA test,301 cases were positive(9.02%)for TRUST repeated test;syphilis infection rates in different sites and marital status of MSM HIV were significantly different,bathroom type and married MSM were higher.CONCLUSION HIV and syphilis infection rate is higher among MSM in Jiangsu province,the condom use rate is still low.HIV has the further spread of the trend,monitoring and intervention for HIV among MSM are very important for HIV control.
