Abstract
The typical academic viewpoints are reviewed and summarized in four aspects of desertification assessment that are desertification indicators, assessment of present status of desertification, assessment of extending rate of desertification and assessment of desertification risk. The hotspots, argued fields and recent progresses of the desertification assessment studies are described in detail. The trends of desertification assessment study are put forward also.
