Abstract
The toxic potentials of organic pollutants in source and tap water samples of three waterworks (i.e.,Chongshan, Zhongqiao and Xishiqiao) and water sample of Changdang Lake were evaluated with the comet assay. The results showed that DNA damages in human peripheral blood lymphocytes were induced after exposure to the organic extracts from all water samples and the genetic hazard also existed. The correlation of the results between the comet assay and the pollution conditions of the water sources was displayed well. Moreover, the results indicated the season alternation and the general water treatment process could affect the bio-toxicity of the water. The experimental results demonstrated that the comet assay could be successfully applied on the genotoxicity monitoring program of the water.
