Comparative study of modified electroconvulsive therapy combined with Venlafaxine Sustained-release Tablets in the treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder

Objective To investigate the efficiency and safety of modified electroconvulsive therapy(MECT) with Venlafaxine Sustained-release Tablets in the treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder.Methods 64 patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder were randomly assigned into two groups.The combination group was given MECT combined with Venlafaxine Sustained-release Tablets and the single group was given Venlafaxine Sustained-release Tablets alone,both for 6 weeks.The effects were assessed with yale-brown obsessive compulsive scale(Y-BOCS) and Hamilton anxiety scale(HAMA) and safeties were assessed with treatment emergent symptom scale(TESS).The changes of biochemical index,blood tests and electrocardiogram were determined before and at the end of treatments to assess the safety.Results At the end of the 6th week,The total effective rate of the combination group was 80.0%,which of the single group was 53.3%,the former was significantly higher than the latter(χ2=6.47,P 0.05).As compared with the baseline scores,the Y-BOCS scores were as well as HAMA.The two groups decreased significantly after treatment for 6 weeks(P 0.01),especially for combination group(t = 4.69,4.39,P 0.01).There was no significant difference between the two groups in TESS(t = 1.35,P 0.05).Conclusion MECT combined with Venlafaxine Sustained-release Tablets can improve the curative effect in the treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder,and has higher safety,better compliance.
