Abstract

[Objective]To investigate the correlation between the catch-up growth of small for gestational age(SGA)children after birth and IGF-1,IGF-BP3.[Methods]The prospective studies were used.Analyzed the relationship between IGF-1,IGF-BP3,weight and height,41 SGA and 65 appropriate for gestational age(AGA)children were recruited in the study.[Results]IGF-1,IGF-BP3 for term SGA and preterm SGA were apparently lower than those for term AGA and preterm AGA(P﹤0.05);After 3 months,IGF-1,IGFBP-3 increased apparently(P﹤0.05),and for term SGA,preterm SGA were lower than term AGA and preterm AGA(P﹤0.01);there was a remarkable correlation between IGF-1,IGFBP-3 and the growth of weight and height(P﹤0.05),21 of 34 SGA had catch-up growth after birth.[Conclusion]The catch-up growth for SGA for the first year after birth have the correlation with IGF-1,IGF-BP3,and the low level may be one of the causes of growth retardation.
