A New Exposition on Tao Yuanming's Prose Poems

Many popular expositions on Tao Yuanming's three prose poems left behind mainly think that Tao Yuanming was a reduse who did not want to be a government official and so his works became the portrayal that he yearned for nature and had broken with officialdom completely. But those expositions did not touch upon Tao Yuanming's deep sorrow for his shattered hopes which was the profound reason why he determined to withdraw from society and live in solitude. This has something to do with the lacking in studying Tao Yuanming's prose poems.This article mainly analyses his prose poems' common subject, which appeared in Chu Sao too--the sorrow for not being in the kings good graces, so that we can thoroughly understand the deep reason for Tao Yuanming's withdrawing from society and living in solitude; and also understand his another magnificent and gloomy style which was different from simple nature. Finally, the paper proceeds to recognize all-sidedly the writer's ideological value and artistic achievements.
