Abstract

Objective:To explore the expression and clinical significance of P-glycoprotein (P-gp), Glutathione-transferase-π (GST-π) in salivary gland tumors. Method:The expression of P-gp, GST-π were detected by inmunohistochemical method in tissues from 10 cases with normal salivary gland, 16 cases with benign salivary gland tumor and 25 patients with malignant salivary gland tumor and the clinico-pathological characteristics was evaluated. Result: P-gp protein expression in normal salivary gland from 10 patients, benign salivary gland tumors from 16 patients and malignant salivary gland tumors from 27 patients showed 80%, 100%, 92.00% respectively. The positive rate of GST-π in malignant salivary gland tumors was significantly higher than that in benign salivary gland tumors (χ2=17.208,P0.001).The positive expression of GST-π in salivary gland tumors from 25 patients was related with the types of pathology in salivary gland tumors (χ2=9.818,P0.05). Conclusion: P-gp may probably involve in the tumors genesis and progress in the salivary gland tumors. GST-π plays an important role in the multidrug resistance of malignant salivary gland tumors. P-gp, GST-π detection might be used in the selection of chemotherapy regimens and the prognosis of malignant salivary gland tumors. It laid the foundation for reversal studies of multidrug resistance.
