Abstract
Objective To investigate the expression and significance of p53 protein in salivary gland tumors. Methods Thirty-six cases of surgical specimens of salivary gland tumors from two hospitals, including 18 cases of Pleomorphic Adenoma(PA)and 18 cases of Mucoepidermoid Carcinoma(MC) were revjiewed. The immunohistochemical S-P method was used to analyze the expression of p53 protein in the tumors. Results In 36 cases of salivary gland tumors, the positive rate of p53 in malignant gland tumors was significantly higher than that in benign salivary gland tumors(P0.05).The positive rate of p53 were related to the nodal metastasis and the clinical substage(P0.05),and had no relation to the site and size of the tumors. Conclusion p53 may play a key role in occurrence and development of salivary gland tumors, and serve as an indicator of malignancy and development of salivary gland tumor.
