Abstract

Objective To investigate the effectiveness of noninvasive positive pressure ventilation in acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD) complicated with severe type 2 respiratory failure. Methods A total of 74 COPD patients with type 2 respiratory failure were divided into 2 groups. The therapy group included 37 patients and was given routine therapy(meditations and oxygen) and noninvasive ventilation;the control group included 37 patients were only given routine therapy.Observations of the clinical indicators and arterial blood gas index were made before and after the treatment. Results Alter the noninvasive ventilation to patients in the therapy group,PaO,was observed lo increase dramatically (P 0.05),while PaCO_2 decreased dramatically(P 0.05).The related complications and Borg rating in the therapy group were significantly better than the control group(P 0.05).Conclusion NIPPV treatment for the acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease complicated with severe type 2 respiratory failure can improve the therapeutic efficacy. reduce the associated complications and mortality and improve the prognosis.
