Abstract

The pilot test in which municipal sewage is treated by biological aerated filter (BAF) with burned clay pellets as microorganism carriers is carried out with scale of 12m~3 /d .The effects of filtration velocity, gas-to-sewage ratio, overloading and backwashing on the performance of BAF are investigated. The results show: (1) under the conditions of sewage temperature range of (20~23.5)℃,filtration velocity range of (6.09~8.21)m/h,gas-to-sewage ratio of 1∶1 for biocarbone aerated filter and 2∶1 for bio-nitrification filter,the effluent of BAF reach the water standards for miscellaneous use in living from COD (120~338)mg/L and NH~+ 4-N(30.0~53.6)mg/L of influent of BAF ;(2) overloading and backwashing have no remarkable effects on the quality of effluent.
