Abstract

[Objective] The reference for the application of the biological aerated filter(BAF) with new type of self-flushing system without pump in the treatment of the sewage in mining areas was provided through the research on its engineering technology.[Method] The effect of the hydraulic loading, the organic loading of influent water and the ratio of air to water on the removal efficiency of COD and NH3-N was investigated with volumetric method and gravimetric method of potassium dichromate.[Results] The experimental results showed that the removal efficiency of COD and NH3-N in BAF system was 87.1% and 80.3% respectively at the hydraulic loading of 2.5m3/(m2·h),the air-water ratio of 5∶1 while the concentration of COD and NH3-N in the influent water was 83.2 and 22.3mg/l.The requirement of COD and NH3-N from the discharge water treated met the Grade A of the National Standard of pollutants discharge from municipa1 wastewater treatment plant(GB18918-2002 l).[Conclusion] The efficiency of the sewage in mining areas treated with the method of BAF was good.
