Abstract

ObjectiveTo investigate the effect of oral medicated ice(OMI) on pharyngeal swelling and pain in patients after anteriorapproach surgery of cervical vertebra.MethodsSixty patients who had undergone the operation were divided into trial group and control group. Those in the trial group started to take OMI two hours after the operation, one piece every hour for 24 hours except while sleeping;those in the control took no OMI.ResultsThe effect showed a significant difference between the two groups(H=26.7,P0.05).ConclusionOMI has a notable effect for pharyngeal swelling and pain after surgery for cervical vertebra through anterior approach.
