Abstract

The 50tons T type two-strand tundish in a factory was taken as research object.A three-dimensional finite volume model had been established using the commercial software ANSYS CFX10.0.The flow Characteristics of molten steel in tundish, temperature distribution and the rule of inclusion removal were simulated using multiphase flow model. The influence that the process parameters of different weir-dam combination ways, turbulence inhibitor, casting speed, inclusion size and so on acted on mean residence time of molten steel in tundish and floating rate of inclusion had been studied. The results showed as follows. The turbulence inhibitor had little influence on inclusion removal. The floating rate of inclusion increased rapidly with the inclusion size increasing. The inclusions less than 20μm were very difficult to remove in the tundish. The floating rate of inclusion decreased constantly with casting speed increasing. The effect of inclusion removal came up to the best using weir A=300cm,damB=400cm, square corrugated turbulence inhibitor, filter combined type flow control device.
