The Construal of English Gradable Antonyms from the Perspective of Cognitive Linguistics

Abstract

Gradable antonyms are mainly concerned with pairs of opposite adjectives varying in degrees,which can be shown in scales.Based on the explanation of traditional grammar on this issue,this paper aims to do research on markedness and unmarkedness of positive degree and impartiality and committedness of comparative degree of pairs of antonyms and tries to explore their cognitive motivation.
