Abstract

Objective To investigate the protective effect of edaravone on nigrostriatal dopaminergic neurons in Parkinson′s disease(PD) mice induced by paraquat and maneb. Methods Male C57BL/6 mices were randomly divided into paraquat(PQ) + maneb(MN) treated, edaravone treated and control groups.Behavioral and immunohistochemical changes were to detect the motor coordination and the expression of tyrosine hydroxylase(TH) and GSK-3β in the substantia nigra pars compacta(SNc).Results Edaravone significantly attenuated the impairment of behavioral performance, increased the number of TH positive neurons and decreased the expression of GSK-3β in SNc.Conclusions Edaravone has a beneficial influence on PD induced by PQ+MB.
