Abstract

Since folklore as a discipline was making, the scholars paid particular attention to the social functions of it, discussed it repeatedly, and the recognition on it was gradually deepened. In his early practices on folklore, Zhong Jingwen greatly advocated the important role of folklore on the mass education through speeches, holding lecture classes and exhibitions. His systematic theoretical idea about it was taken shape. Since 1949, he keeps stressing on the educational significance of the forms and content of folklore, arguing on the dialectic relations between the research and application, and exploring different ways by which the folklore's educational function can be realized. All of these present his endless efforts both as a folklorist and as an educationist.
