Abstract

Objective: To evaluate and compare the role of cytokines in the pathogenesis of COPD.Methods: Induced sputum and serum samples were obtained from 33 patients with attack and stable COPD,30 normal control.IL-8、IL-1-β 、TNF-a level were measured by radioimmunoassay technique. Results: In the COPD group, the sputum and serum level of IL-8、TNF-a in the attack stage were significantly higher than those in the stable stage(P0.01).The stable stage was higher than control group(P0.01).The sputum and serum level of IL-1-β did not different in the three groups. In the COPD group, the sputum and serum level of IL-8 was correlated positively with the TNF-a(r=0.684、0.593,respectively).The sputum level of IL-8 was correlated positively with the serum in the COPD group(r= 0.736).Conclusion: IL-8、TNF-a are involved in airway inflammation, thus playing an important role in the pathogenetic process of COPD.
