Abstract
p Toluene sulphonic acid was used as catalyst for the synthesis of 2 ethylhexyl salicylate from 2 ethyl 1 hexanol and salicylic acid. The results show that the appropriate conditions are: molar ratio of 2 ethyl 1 hexanol to salicylic acid, 3∶1; reaction time: 3.0 h; reaction temperature: 140~ 150°C ; molar ratio of p toluene sulphonic acid to salicylic acid, 1∶11, with no water carrying reagent; yield: about 98%.
